THE 10 GOALS

not to be missed

1. Ancona

The capital. Besides being a beautiful city full of history, it is also one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean. Then the most suggestive thing .. but did you know that Ancona is the only city in Italy where the sun rises and sets over the sea, giving incredible landscape effects????? The things to see are definitely the cathedral of S. Ciriaco, from which you can see the whole city and the sea, from above, the hospital, a pentagonal fortress on the water and the Roman arch. It is also important to say that, just a stone's throw from the centre, we find the Passetto beach, apparently normal, but which turns into something incredible when you look at its steps from the sea. Try to believe.

2. The Conero Riviera

The Marches are a succession of beaches, which overlook the Mediterranean, all more or less all sandy, up to Monte Conero all of a sudden. Here, the landscape changes completely. We find a rocky beach from which you can enjoy the wonderful sea in front and the impotence of Monte Conero behind. The beaches of Portonovo embody the general beauty of the region. The union of the mountain and the sea in a single glimpse.

3. The caves of Frasassi and the Tempietto di Valadier

The best known caves in Italy and probably the most fascinating in the world. It is a 13 km long route formed by tunnels dug by speleologists over the years. Inside you will find underground lakes, stalagmites and stalactites. There are various cavities, but the most striking is certainly L'abisso Ancona, one of the largest cavities in the world (180 m long, 120 m wide and 200 m high). Right next to the Frasassi caves, you will find an architectural structure camouflaged with surrounding rocks : the temple of Valaider. Built in 1828 by Pope Leo XII and designed by the architect Valadier, from whom it takes its name, it has an octagonal plan structure, with a domed roof, inserted in a cave. Once it was used as a refuge for Christian sinners, today it is instead a suggestive place to pray to the statue of the Madonna, sculpted by Canova, which is located inside.

4. Recanati and Leopardi's house

Between the hinterland and the Marche coast we find the balcony city: Recanati, so called for the fantastic panorama that can be enjoyed from every point. Candidate for "Italian capital of culture 2018", it boasts the reputation of being the birthplace of important historical figures: Beniamino Gigli, a well-known opera singer, but above all Giacomo Leopardi, one of the greatest literary poets of all time. Right here, in Recanati, you can visit LA CASA LEOPARDI: the birthplace of the famous poet, still inhabited by his descendants, but open to visits, where it is possible to experience the emotion of his works and above all discover the deep soul of the poet who brought him to his greatness.

5. Furlo gorge and potholes of the giants

The marmitte dei giganti are areas, originally covered by glaciers, subsequently melted due to fluvial erosion, which present gorges with fantastic plays of color ranging from green to blue. In the Marches, we find these areas in Fossombrone with gorges 30 m high. It is possible to enjoy this spectacle of nature from the Saltelli bridge, while for the more adventurous there is the possibility of looking at the canyon up close along a rather steep path, but which is really worth doing. Not far away we find LA GOLA DEL FURLO: a nature reserve located in the province of Pesaro-Urbino which allows the preservation of nature. It is an authentic green paradise crossed by the Candigliano river.

6. Elcito and Canfaito

Elcito is called "the village of silence". There are no shops, shops, the road that crosses it is so small that it is not possible to enter by public transport and they say that only 7 people live there. You can find recently renovated stone houses around the remains of the medieval castle and from here you can admire an incredible landscape. Elcito is located in the province of Macerata and is one of the most enchanting places in the Marches, where silence reigns, peace and it seems to live in one of those fairy tale books, where time has stopped. A few kilometers away, on the slopes of Mount San Vicino, you can live an enchanting experience, walking through the paths of Mount Canfaito which, especially in autumn, offers incredible colours. the excursion in this nature reserve, allows you to meet hundreds of centenary trees, including the oldest beech of the Marches, which is among the 300 monumental trees of Italy, but above all, you can enjoy the majesty of the king of Canfaito, a beech of 500 years. How will you recognize it? just find a huge snail-shaped root.

7. Lake Fiastra and Lame Rosse: the Canyon of the Marches

Lake Fiastra is an artificial lake with the aim of supplying electricity to the Fiastrone Valley and to give moments of absolute relaxation to anyone who has time to stop for a walk or a bike ride (on the cycle path on the right side of the dam) or for a nice swim, since it has clear and unpolluted waters Behind the beautiful lake of Fiastra, we find the Lame Rosse, mountains eroded by rain, at the foot of the Sibillini Mountains which have a bright red color, typical of the American Canyon. During the excursions, more or less difficult, in the various paths, it is possible to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view from which it is possible to see the beauty of the Fiastrone river and the lake.

8. Loreto and the Holy House

The basilica of Loreto is one of the main places of Marian worship, among the most important and visited in the world. According to tradition, inside the basilica there are the remains of what was the real home of Jesus in Nazareth. It has a Gothic-Renaissance style and its construction dates back to the end of the 1400s. It is possible to see the dome from a vast area that goes from the sea to the nearby hills and it is just below it that we find the Holy House, where it seems that the Virgin Maria received the Annunciation, which has only three terracotta brick walls and has no ceiling or foundation.

9. Cingoli, the balcony of the Marches

Cingoli, a small village in the province of Macerata, thanks to its position at 600m above sea level, has earned the name of "Balcony of the Marche" as, looking out from its terrace, you can see all the beauties of our region starting from the Sibillini mountains , up to our Adriatic beaches. Cingoli is one of the most beautiful and best preserved historic villages, which takes us back to the past with its Gothic architecture and alleys full of small craft shops. this Borgo makes us experience the past in a timeless beauty: Le Marche.

10. The medieval villages

In our region, a few km from our structure, it is possible to find the beauty and majesty of medieval villages, where tradition is still alive through very folkloric festivals and fairs. Certainly among the most beautiful villages we find Offagna, with its medieval festivals at the end of July, in which thanks to its evocative settings it takes us back in time, Gradara with its castle that stands imposingly on a hill and Corinaldo which still has a wall and which, especially on Halloween, transforms into a ghostly and realistically horror place to let anyone who passes by live an unforgettable experience.
